A couple weeks ago I posted pictures of a quilt my grandmother had made that belongs to my sister. One of the comments asked about the quilt that I got. Here it is--the states' flowers quilt. This quilt belonged to my mom's oldest sister (who my middle name is after) and it is quite worn, but very beautifully detailed.

An interesting thing about this quilt: notice there are only 48 states...Hawaii and Alaska were not states when it was made.
Here are close ups of some of the states. The flowers and state names are all hand embroidered. It is also all hand quilted. Someday I hope to be as wonderful a quilter as my grandmother was.

That is a really cool idea! I would love to make something like that someday. One time I crosstitched an island and a bunch of the things it was famous for. It was fun!
holy cow look at all the detail of that. The details are amazing, I wonder how long this quilt took your grandma to make. She was probably such a wiz it took one weekend and that was with the house spotless and the children clean, but back then they did not have tv to eat away at their brains as much as we do. I watch way too much tv. I wish I could do something like that. I have come to the conculsion that I have no skill and am doomed to be forever ordinary.
I love quilts, thats a very detailed one. Very nice
I thought you were making some squares like this once...
Yes, Jill, I was. I have a completed top for my mom, and that's as far as I've gone. That always seems to be as far as I get. *sigh*
